Sojourner House’s CEO, Vanessa Volz, appeared on The Public’s Radio 89.3FM this week to talk about the looming threat of federal funding cuts and the ways in which our organization is preparing for an uncertain future.
Vanessa explained that one of Sojourner House’s greatest priorities right now is to advocate for the passage of the V.I.C.T.I.M Act, a bill that would create a dedicated funding allocation for victim services in the states budget– something our neighboring states in MA, CT, NY, and PA already have.
“This isn’t going to be an easy win,” Vanessa told host Luis Hernandez, “but we really are trying to bring home the point that this is an issue that effects so many Rhode Islanders. If we’re going to be successful this year it’s by demonstrating how the state of Rhode Island needs to prioritize victim services.”
