Sojourner House’s Staff Attorney, Yulyana Torres, was a guest this week on the Law 401 podcast, a Roger Williams University program that unpacks timely legal issues impacting Rhode Islanders.
Yulyana chatted with hosts, Nicole Dyszlewski and Michael Donnelly-Boylen, about Sojourner House’s new Expanded Legal Services Initiative (ESLI), the concept of trauma-informed lawyering, and the unconventional ways she works to make her clients feel safe and seen throughout the legal process– such as pausing a meeting to sing Moana songs with a nervous kiddo or offering to match outfits with a client on trial day (“What color makes you feel strong? Blue? Okay, we’ll both be wearing blue.”)
