In an effort to foster community healing and shatter the silence around sexual violence, Sojourner House is collaborating with The Alcove to host an open mic where survivors are invited to share stories, poetry, or music connected to their experiences with trauma and healing. All are welcome!
During the event, select pieces from the RI Clothesline Project— a community art exhibition designed to showcase the widespread impact of abuse— will be on display for viewing.

About The Alcove:
The Alcove is a feminist cultural center that creates space for community and coalition building. It’s also (to our delight) just around the corner from Sojourner House’s Drop-In Center!
Nervous about taking part in the open mic? Consider attending our writing and performance workshop the week before!
On Thursday, April 9th at 6pm, Sojourner House will be hosting a writing and craft workshop at our Drop-In Center for survivors interested in performing at The Healing Stage.
The goal of this workshop is to give survivors:
- The opportunity to meet fellow artists who might be performing! It’s always nice to have a friendly face in the room when you’re nervous.
- A chance to get familiar and comfortable with the performance space.
- A space to workshop existing creative pieces and receive prompts that might be helpful in drafting something new.
