Sojourner House offers a variety of support groups for survivors and people who are close to them.

Participation is free and both virtual and in person options are available. If you are interested in joining one of our support groups, please contact us using the group specific directions below. If you have any questions, please call our office at 401-861-6191.

English Speaking Support Groups


LGBTQ+ Survivors Support Group

Members: LGBTQ+ identifying (18+) survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking

Format: Non-clinical group that runs virtually every Monday from 6-7pm

Recruitment Staus: Open

Here, you’ll find peer support, community, and discussions about queer specific issues. Some examples of these topics include but are not limited to: consent in the Queer community, the impact of the gender binary, being Queer in the workplace, changing identities, intimate partner violence, and LGBTQ+ sexual health!

Strengths Support Group

Members: English-speaking women who are survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking

Format: Meets virtually on Tuesday nights

Recruitment Status: Closed

This non-clinical group provides its members a forum to discuss their experience and impact of interpersonal violence and trauma. In addition, this group uses a strengths-based model to increase self-esteem and self-actualization. Group topics include coping strategies, self-care, effective communication strategies, emotion identification, body awareness, grounding skills, guilt/shame, and safety planning.


Teen Support Group

Members: Teens ages 14-19

Format: Meets in person on Tuesday afternoons

Recruitment Status: Open

This non-clinical group will discuss and engage in topics related to positive youth development, including: leadership skills, mental health, exploration of interest.

Sexual Assault Survivor Support Group

Members:  Adult woman identified survivors of sexual assault

Format: Meets in person on Wednesday evenings

Recruitment Status: Open

This non-clinical group provides a supportive environment for members to discuss the impact of sexual violence on their lives and their relationships. It also explores useful ways to deal with common challenges faced by all survivors of sexual violence, with a heavy focus being put on the development of positive coping strategies.


Routine Maintenance

Members: Folks who work in victim services who have experienced DV in their personal lives

Format: Meets in person on the second Tuesday of every month at 6pm

Recruitment Status: Open

Routine Maintenance is a non-clinical group that explores topics related to self-care, sustainability in the field and connection. A space to write, talk, learn and create monthly alongside like-minded professionals. Each month we explore a theme, express our thoughts in writing and conversation, host a special guest and explore an expressive arts project.


Spanish Speaking Support Groups


Grupo de Apoyo Para el Empoderamiento

MIiembros: Víctimas/sobrevivientes de violencia doméstica identificadas como mujeres de habla hispana

Formato: Se reúne virtualmente los miércoles por la mañana.

Este no clinico grupo proporcionará empoderamiento y tiene como objetivo construir una comunidad para sobrevivientes de violencia doméstica identificadas como mujeres de habla hispana.

El Espejo Grupo de Apoyo

Miembros: Hombres de habla espanol que son sobrevivientes de violencia doméstica, agresión sexual y/o trata de personas

Formato: Se reúne en persona los lunes por la noche

Estado de Reclutamiento: Abrir

Este grupo es un grupo clínico dirigido por una terapeuta clínica, Mandy Moran, LCSW, quien creó un currículo de 30 semanas que se enfoca en la curación del trauma. El currículo se enfoca en la curación incorporando teorías y modalidades de tratamiento, incluida la terapia conductual dialéctica, la terapia conductual cognitiva, la psicoeducación, la terapia de aceptación y compromiso y la terapia existencial. Los temas grupales discuten la masculinidad, el machismo, la autoestima, las estrategias de afrontamiento, la ira, el estigma y las implicaciones sociales del trauma.

Si, Yo Puedo

Miembros: Mujeres de habla espanol que son sobrevivientes de violencia doméstica, agresión sexual y/o trata de personas.

Formato: Se reúne en persona los jueves por la mañana

Estado de Reclutamiento: Abrir

Este no clinico grupo nace de una relación de socios entre Sojourner House y Progreso Latino. Es un curso de 11 semanas que sigue un currículo psicoeducativo creado por un psicólogo peruano. Los temas incluyen la curación del trauma, el empoderamiento, las implicaciones políticas, la autoestima y la crianza de los hijos después de experimentar un trauma.
