Job Location: Providence and Northern, RI

Reports to: Director of Clinical Services

Status: Part-Time, up to 10 hours per week (to include client contact, documentation, and case collaboration meetings). This is an independent contractor position.

Salary: $65 – $81 per hour, based on experience ($81 is the maximum hourly rate)

About Us: Sojourner House is a comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault agency that provides residential, educational, and community-based interventions to families and individuals impacted by abuse. We have offices in Providence and Woonsocket; and programs that operate statewide. Our goal is to help our clients rebuild their lives, piece by piece, through a variety of services. All of our programs work from the premise that violence is an unacceptable means of solving interpersonal conflict, and we encourage only non-violent methods of working out conflicts.

Position Overview: This position is responsible for providing trauma-informed substance use counseling, psychotherapy, and support groups to clients receiving services from Sojourner House. The Clinician will provide effective substance use specific mental and behavioral health intervention to assigned clients at a number of sites, including home and community visits when needed, maintaining necessary clinical documentation and records and appropriate communication with other Sojourner House staff. The Clinician will provide individual counseling to our community clients who are involved in our trafficking services program, which falls under a federal grant contract, and will also be responsible for developing groups and other therapeutic activities for assigned clients struggling with substance use and working towards recovery.

Principal Job Duties (in descending order of priority):

  • Provide individual substance use counseling and support to clients of Sojourner House within the community trafficking advocacy program, which is funded through a federal grant contract.These clients have experienced severe abuse and sometimes are grappling with PTSD and other serious and chronic mental and behavioral health concerns.
  • Offer support to housing clinic staff by providing on-site advocacy to clients
  • Work with the clinical director to develop strategies for services, participation and retention
  • Offer some case management to clients, including outside referrals and advocacy when needed.
  • Travel between Sojourner House sites and to clients’ homes or the community to offer therapy where needed.
  • Communicate with other Sojourner House staff and other involved agencies as appropriate.
  • Comply with strict substance use specific and other healthcare confidentiality guidelines such as 42 CFR Part 2 and HIPAA. Comply with mandated reporting requirements and immediately communicate all concerns as mandated by law.
  • Complete data entry and clinical documentation and submit necessary reports as required for grant compliance and billing reimbursements. Prepare and deliver community presentations when requested. Perform other duties as requested by the Director of Clinical Services.
  • Support Sojourner House’s philosophy of client empowerment and respect for individual choices.

Qualifications

  • Must be registered or certified with, or licensed by, either the Rhode Island Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline, the Rhode Island Board of Registration of Social Workers, the Rhode Island Board of Psychology, or the Rhode Island Department of Health as a Mental Health Counselor or a Therapist in Marriage or Family Practice, or by an equivalent state licensing authority.
  • LCSW, LICSW, and/or LCDP preferred. Please do not apply for this position without proper licensure, and please indicate in your cover letter which license you hold.
  • Professional experience and training in providing substance use specific therapy to adults.
  • Extensive understanding of interpersonal violence and related impacts
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle as this position requires travel between sites.
  • Bilingual candidates strongly preferred.
